Application Notes

Conductive shielding paints and groundable fabrics only protect against low-frequency electric fields — and only meet safety requirements — when correctly grounded. YSHIELD grounding components are made in-house and include separate solutions for fixed installations (walls/ceilings) and portable textiles (canopies, blankets).

Safety notice: In fixed installations, the grounding connection must be made by a licensed electrician in accordance with the applicable electrical installation regulations. Ask us for help choosing the right components for your project.

Application Areas

  • The mandatory grounding of walls and ceilings coated with shielding paint
  • Connecting groundable fabrics, curtains and canopies
  • Structural grounding runs for fleece/mat/mesh layers
  • Moisture-resistant junction boxes for exterior applications
  • Single-point distribution in multi-surface projects (GD5)

Installation and Application

  • On fixed surfaces, the GS plate is set in place before the paint dries or mounted pressed against the dried film; it is connected to the run with a cable lug.
  • The connection to the building's earth/equipotential busbar must be made by a licensed electrician, in accordance with the wiring regulations in force.
  • On textiles, a GCS (screw), GCM (magnetic) or GCV (hook-and-loop) connector is attached to the fabric; a GL cable runs to the grounding point.
  • For portable textiles, the country-specific GP plug connects only to the earth pin; it carries no power.
  • Several surfaces can be combined into a single run with the GD5 distributor; outdoors, the GF4 box is used.

Care and Service Life

Grounding components need no maintenance; an annual visual check (loosening, oxidation) is enough. If a run was interrupted during renovations, continuity should be verified with a multimeter.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is grounding mandatory?

If a conductive surface is not grounded, it does not shield low-frequency electric fields and can pose a safety risk in a wiring-fault scenario. Grounding is both a performance and a safety requirement.

Is the earth in my socket enough?

If your installation is earthed to code, yes — GP plugs and GL cables use this line. If in doubt, have an electrician check the installation's earthing first.

Do I have to ground my canopy?

Not if only high frequency is the goal; if low-frequency electric fields from the wiring behind the bed are also an issue, grounding the groundable fabrics makes sense.

From how many points should it be grounded?

In a standard room, one point per surface is usually enough; on segmented or interrupted surfaces, continuity or a separate connection is planned for each independent piece. We calculate this in the project.
